Why it is called Panchganga
The Kashi official portal explains the traditional belief that Ganga, Yamuna, Saraswati, Kirana and Dhutapapa meet at Panchganga. Only the Ganga is physically visible, but the symbolic confluence gives the ghat special religious significance.
The same source also notes associations with Guru Nanak and with rites such as tarpan and shraddh, reinforcing the ghat’s layered spiritual character.
Dev Deepawali atmosphere
On Dev Deepawali, lamp lighting adds visual intensity without erasing the ghat’s quieter identity. The two Panchganga images in the supplied list are therefore used together on this page to show that one location can produce very different frames depending on angle and distance.
For visitors who want a place with strong sacred identity but less emphasis on a single grand Aarti stage, Panchganga can be a meaningful part of the evening.
Photography and river perspective
A river-facing view can better reveal the full height of the steps and surrounding architecture. From land, details of lamp placement and devotional activity become more prominent.
Because the festival is a religious observance, treat worshippers and rituals as the subject of respect rather than merely foreground elements for a photograph.

FAQ
Common questions
What does Panchganga mean?
It refers to the traditional belief that five sacred rivers meet at this ghat.
Is Panchganga the main Ganga Aarti ghat?
No. Dashashwamedh is more closely associated with the city’s headline evening Aarti.
Why use two Panchganga images?
The uploaded imagelist includes two distinct Panchganga views, so this page uses both to show different perspectives of the same ghat.
