A Festival of Joy

Unlike the solemnity of some festivals, Janmashtami is filled with playful re-enactments of Krishna's childhood antics, music, and dance.

The Divine Birth of Krishna

The story of Krishna's birth is a dramatic tale of prophecy, peril, and divine intervention. It was foretold that the eighth son of Devaki and her husband Vasudeva would be the downfall of the tyrannical king Kansa, Devaki's own brother.

🌃

A Savior Born at Midnight

Fearing for his life, Kansa imprisoned Devaki and Vasudeva, killing their first six children. When the eighth child, Krishna, was born at midnight, a miracle occurred. The prison guards fell asleep, the cell doors opened, and Vasudeva was guided to carry the infant across the raging Yamuna river to the safety of Gokul. There, he swapped his son with the newborn daughter of Nanda and Yashoda. This miraculous birth and escape signify that divine power will always find a way to overcome tyranny and restore righteousness.
