2027 muhurat planning note: The 2027 card intentionally uses different timing rules for different festivals: sunrise, Madhyahna, Aparahna, Pradosh, Nishita, moonrise or Sankranti. That is why the same festival can show a different civil date or clock time in another city.

How each festival picks its time

  • Morning festivals

    Sunrise (udaya)

The tithi at sunrise names the day: Ghatasthapana, Durga Ashtami, Govardhan Puja.

  • Midday festivals

    Madhyahna

The middle fifth of daylight, when Ram and Ganesh were born: Ram Navami, Ganesh Chaturthi.

  • Afternoon festivals

    Aparahna

The fourth fifth of daylight: Dussehra's Vijay muhurat and the Bhai Dooj tilak.

  • Evening festivals

    Pradosh and lagna

The first fifth of the night with the fixed Vrishabha lagna: Dhanteras and Diwali Lakshmi Puja.

  • Midnight festivals

    Nishita

The eighth of fifteen night muhurtas, around midnight: Janmashtami and Maha Shivaratri.

  • Moon and Sun

    Moonrise and Sankranti

Karwa Chauth ends at moonrise; Makar Sankranti follows the Sun's entry into Makara.

How the card calculates

  1. Tithi instantsEach festival's tithi begins and ends at one instant worldwide. Drik Panchang's published values are used where available (Makar Sankranti, Maha Shivaratri, Janmashtami, Navratri Pratipada, Diwali Amavasya); the rest come from an ephemeris adjusted to Drik, typically within a minute.
  2. Local skySunrise, sunset, the Vrishabha lagna and moonrise are calculated for the chosen city.
  3. Festival ruleEach festival's classical rule (sunrise, Madhyahna, Aparahna, Pradosh, Nishita, moonrise) picks the local date and window.

Festivals not yet in the card

Holika Dahan, Holi and Raksha Bandhan depend on Bhadra, a half-tithi period that must be avoided, and Chhath, Akshaya Tritiya, Hanuman Jayanti, Hariyali Teej and Ekadashi parana each need their own rules. They are not in the card yet rather than shown with guessed timings.

Muhurat 2027: questions people ask

Which festivals does the 2027 muhurat card cover?

Thirteen: Makar Sankranti, Maha Shivaratri, Ram Navami, Krishna Janmashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi, Navratri Ghatasthapana, Durga Ashtami and Sandhi Puja, Dussehra, Karwa Chauth, Dhanteras, Diwali Lakshmi Puja, Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj.

Why does the date change for some cities?

A tithi begins and ends at the same instant everywhere, but each festival is tied to a local moment such as sunrise, midday, Pradosh or midnight. So the same tithi can fall on different local dates; for example Janmashtami and Maha Shivaratri fall a day earlier on the US west coast, and Diwali falls on 28 October in North America and Europe but 29 October in India.

When is Diwali in 2027?

Friday 29 October 2027 in India, with Lakshmi Puja in New Delhi from 6:35 PM – 7:05 PM, a short window because Amavasya ends at 7:05 PM IST. In the UK, Europe and North America Amavasya covers the evening of Thursday 28 October, so Lakshmi Puja is that night.

When is Navratri in 2027?

Ghatasthapana is on Thursday 30 September 2027, 8:05 AM – 10:12 AM in New Delhi, with Abhijit muhurat 11:47 AM to 12:35 PM. Pratipada does not reach any sunrise in India this year, so Ghatasthapana is on the day it begins. Durga Ashtami is 7 October and Dussehra 9 October.

When is Karwa Chauth in 2027?

Monday 18 October 2027, with moonrise at 7:35 PM in New Delhi.

When are Ram Navami and Ganesh Chaturthi in 2027?

Ram Navami is Thursday 15 April (Madhyahna 11:04 AM – 1:39 PM in New Delhi; Navami ends at 1:20 PM). Ganesh Chaturthi is Saturday 4 September (Madhyahna 11:04 AM – 1:36 PM; Chaturthi ends at 12:25 PM).

Can I use my own location?

Yes. Use the 'Use my location' button or enter latitude, longitude and time zone; the card calculates every festival for that point.

How accurate are these timings?

Where Drik Panchang has published 2027 figures, the card matches them to within a minute: New Delhi's Makar Sankranti Punya Kaal, Maha Shivaratri and Janmashtami Nishita windows, Ghatasthapana and Abhijit, and Berlin's Diwali Lakshmi Puja. Tithi times not yet published are calculated from an ephemeris that runs within about a minute of Drik. Follow your family priest or temple where they differ.
