Kaikeyi was the youngest of King Dashrath's three wives and the mother of Lord Rama's younger brother, Bharat. She was a princess of the Kekeya Kingdom and was known for her beauty, courage, and intelligence. The story of Kaikeyi is deeply intertwined with the epic tale of Ramayana. She was initially very fond of Rama, Dashrath's eldest son, and treated him like her own child. However, her love for Rama turned into hatred due to the manipulations of her maid, Manthara. Manthara convinced Kaikeyi that her son, Bharat, was being sidelined in favor of Rama, who was set to be crowned as the king. She reminded Kaikeyi of two boons that Dashrath had granted her years ago when she had saved his life during a celestial battle. Manthara suggested that Kaikeyi should use these boons to secure Bharat's future. Following Manthara's advice, Kaikeyi asked Dashrath to fulfill her two boons. For the first boon, she asked for Rama to be exiled to the forest for fourteen years. For the second boon, she demanded that Bharat be crowned as the king in Rama's place. King Dashrath was heartbroken by Kaikeyi's demands. He had always loved and respected Kaikeyi and had granted her the two boons without any hesitation, believing that she would never ask for anything that could harm their family. However, bound by his promise, he had no choice but to agree to her demands. This decision led to his death from grief and set the stage for the events of the Ramayana. Kaikeyi's story is a cautionary tale about the dangers of manipulation and the power of promises. Despite her initial love for Rama, she allowed herself to be manipulated by Manthara and ended up causing great harm to her family.
